This fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy?
The last snappy or crappy, kooky porch décor that included a ragamuffin doll, got mixed reviews. For the record, she was facing the corner at her last sighting, as if she were being punished for getting too much publicity last week.
I am already mixed on my review of this snappy or crappy.

This particular child would be adorable enough to be snappy with any hairstyle, sunglasses or even a shirt that said “Have a nice day, a—ole.”
He could certainly pull it off.
He also chose the Mohawk and glasses of his own free will, as he told me when I met him and his family at the demolition derby during the Pima County Fair.
But if we expand the snappy or crappy to include two other categories, we got some crappiness on our hands. These include kids forced to follow fashions that their parents impart, a la JonBenet Ramsey, or kids who are allowed to sport any fashion they want without some parental guidance, a la adolescent followers of Britney Spears who want to dress in the same revealing clothing at the age of 10. Yuck.
What do you think?
a. Snappy. That boy is adorable and I only looked at the photo without reading any of the text.
b. Crappy. Young boys should have buzz cuts or hair with little sideburns and parted down the side like the comic strip Dondi.
c. The kid is snappy but Mohawks on children remind me of Angelina Jolie and she’s a man-stealing evil woman.
d. Snappy Mohawk on the kid, crappy on the JonBenet and Britney stuff.

Mornin’ Rynski-SNAPPY!(I believe that is my 1st) I envy kids who get to show a little personality. Nothin’ but a ‘butch’ when I was his age.
Mornin – Yes!! a snappy from RadMax! I feel so honored to have come up with something you like – haha. Also like your new avatar there. I remember having pigtails, which are also snappy. But I also remember a really bad haircut that made me look like a boy and cry for eons.
Pigtails are cool. Boy cuts on a girl…not so cool. Boats can be a ton of fun… if you have one. sigh…. 🙂

All my kids went through phases…both my boys have had either a mohawk or faux-hawk. Oh, and my son wesley had huge liberty spikes for a few years, and his hair was dyed black. (during that phase, I’ll never forget the time he called me at work and asked if I could stop at Walgreen’s on my way home, because he was out of nail polish. Black, of course.) lol
AZMouse, how cool you allowed their phases to phase themselves out. I had my own share of hair disasters (in addition to the boy cut). The worst teenage cut was when I tried to shave stripes on the side but kept getting the lines uneven so just shaved the whole side off. Ugh!

Cheers all! My vote is SuperCrapilicious, must be an old fuddy duddy but when I was a kid you got your hairs buzzed off in the backyard by Pops with that little home barbershop kit. And when he was done you looked like a recruit on 1-3 day in bootcamp, had to wear a fishing hat for two weeks till some of it grew back. Istill despise those stoopid looking rat tails some little kids are STILL wearing.
I was thinking that I was going to opinionate that parents shouldn’t force their fashion faux pas on their kids… and then you said it! I think it’s so unfair for parents to make decisions for their kids when they are too small to know better. Especially decisions lke piercings! Makeup and pierced ears on naturally beautiful little girls turns my stomach! They will have to submit to the pressures of society by doing all that later anyway. Why rush it?! Otherwise, he’s a cutie! So… Snappy!
Geez Romeo, we must be related! Those damn shears would get dull and turn haircut day into a form of torture that makes waterboarding look like a picnic.
As a kid, I always had the really long Marcia Brady hair. In my teens, I had a crazy asymetrical cut…really short on the right, to long on the left. My bangs were yellow, the spikes on top were blue, and underneath was fushia-plum, with a few random chunks bleached white.
I agree with Karen, as far as parents who encourage fads. I see little tiny girls with half shirts on and tiny shorts and that worries me.
My to oldest kids were always bugging me to let them get something…my oldest son (now 21) always wanted his lip pierced from the time he was 14. He also said he was going to have tattoos everywhere when he grew up! I just told him when he turned eighteen, he could do what he wanted. He never did get his lip pierced, and doesn’t have a single tattoo.
My daughter (now 23) talked about getting body piercings when she turned eighteen. She wasn’t that big on tattoos. Now she has no body piercings, but she got her first tattoo on her eighteenth birthday, and all together has about six or seven tattoos. You just never know!
I happen to think the kid is snappy. It’s hair; it’ll grow back.

I’ve been cutting my 9-year-old son’s hair since he was a toddler and it has always been the same boring buzz cut. I am currently letting it grow out a little so he can get a “real” haircut. Unfortunately, he has inherited my wavy hair, so he is really not happy with having “curly girl hair”. Actually, ‘not happy’ is an understatement.
Wonder what he would think about a mohawk??!
Ha ha, I just asked him and he said “No way, mom–that is ridiculous!!”
Tami – maybe go for the fro! That’s been making a comeback and it’s very funky.
Don’t think he will go for the fro, Ryn! But with his strawberry blonde hair, I’m trying to imagine the looks he would get 🙂
Of course He’s SNAPPY! I think he’s the coolest (Sorry, I’m a ‘lil biased—he’s my beautiful GRANDSON!) LOL
SNAPPY AND HAPPY inside and out……Trust me this was his idea….and hair grows back, Hair is a great place to allow for self expression. What a great Mom! she doesn’t sweat the small stuff and why should she?! But then of course I too am biased!; He is my little adorable Nephew and I am his Favorite Aunt.
SNAPPY AND HAPPY!!!!! Inside and Out. Trust me this was his idea, and hair grows. He has a Great Mom who allows him to express himself in an area that isn’t permanant. She doesn’t sweat the small stuff. I love her. But then; I too am Biased he is my Nephew. And his mon is my favorite Neice!!!
