Odd Pueblo: Snappy or crappy?

This fun Odd Pueblo feature asks the audience to rate a trend, topic or sighting of something around town: is it snappy or crappy?

The last snappy or crappy, positive reinforcement graffiti, received a majority vote of crappy. “Graffiti is never cool,” more than half the folks voted.

What about rude and crude bumper stickers?

Sticker on car so you can see if it's your neighbor's car/Ryn Gargulinski

This particularly stupid sticker, which we are guessing is politely asking other motorists not to honk, was spotted on a white car owned by someone who obviously thinks bathroom humor is very funny.

It’s so funny we may have the sudden urge to rear-end the vehicle.

Rude and crude bumper stickers can sometimes be humorous, but they are more often dumb or even offensive. They are also apt to be sported by people who drive recklessly and aggressively.

You know the type, they like to speed to or through red lights, cut people off and generally make driving in Tucson a bigger menace than it already is.

At least when they are cutting us off we can have so much fun reading their rude and crude bumper stickers.

Crappy, crappy, crappy.

What do you think?

Hey there Ryn! I vote Crappy! I would never dream of putting a bumper sticker on my car, and it especially makes me cringe when I bumper stickers plastered on an obviously new car! I cringe even more when those stickers are about politics or religion. I don’t care to know who you planned to vote for 5 presidential terms ago. I don’t care that you think Jesus Loves Me. Thats my personal opinion about the bumper stickers…yes! I am a bumper sticker hater! 😛

      hahhahahah! hiya jenna,
so i won’t send you a bumper sticker that says “get gargulinski-ed” then? hahhahaha. i like some bumper stickers – and obviously since i had my car plastered with decals i don’t mind putting them on car (my car IS 10 yrs old, btw so i’m sure that has something to do with it…)-
but i agree that some stickers really stink – esp, like you pointed out, the ones that have presidents from 5 terms ago – hahah! or the religion ones. why don’t we ever see ‘satan loves you’ ones? or do we?

Hey Rynski, I’ve got one of your bumperstickers!…alas my boss won’t allow me to put it on my work truck. 😦 But, my daughter put it on her school notebook, so all her classmates are ‘getting Gargulinskied’. 🙂

      • Jennatoolz says:

I’ve been permanently gargulinskied with my amazing ryn-art tattoo! Yayyy! I just know that I don’t plan on keeping my car much longer (going to trade up in a year or two!), so you can send me a bumper sticker, Ryn, but it just won’t end up on my car! It’ll probably get stuck on a school binder — like Radmax’s daughter has done! Lol 🙂

The difference between your car and bumper stickers is that your car is wayyyy cool. Bumper stickers make cars look tacky. Your car is FAR from tacky!! 😀

      • Rynski says:

        awww, thanks, jenna!
ok – e-mail me your address and a sticker will be on its way – maybe stick it on your physics binder so the subject is a bit more fun – hahhahah.
some would argue with the definition of ‘tacky’ i’m sure! hahahah. tacky can be fun.

      • Jennatoolz says:

Oh physics…*grumbles* I’m having such a hard time in that class, even with a tutor that has a PhD in Physics. Even with his direct help on my homework assignments, I still get the answers wrong. Is there any hope for me?! Lol. Sorry, I was venting for a minute…

True @ the tacky can be fun thing. Bumper stickers are a not-fun tacky, hahah. 😛

      • Rynski says:

yes – there is a BIG hope with the physics thing – it’ll be over soon!
you’ll pass – just do like churchill says:
“never, never, never, never, never give up.” (number of “nevers” open to dispute)

      • Jennatoolz says:

Funny, they have that same Churchill quote plastered on the wall in my school’s computer lab area! Haha.

      • Rynski says:

…they should add a copy in the physics dept!! hahah

Ultra crappy. Mornin’ Rynski! Never ceases to amaze me what some folks will display as humor. While I do get a kick out of some bumperstickers, most are a useless waste of time.
PS-some faves-“somewhere in Texas a village is missing it’s idiot” and “PETA-people eating tasty animals”…oh, and the “guns are responsible for crime the same way spoons are responsible for Rosie O’Donnell being fat”.

    • Rynski says:

      mornin’ radmax!
like your examples of some funny stickers. i, too, think some can be hilarious – even make you think. even those examples, however, wouldn’t make it on to my car. i do enjoy reading them. as long as they don’t attack fellow drivers.
those just make me sick. also sickened by stickers that say: ‘if you’re close enough to read this blah blah blah’) – that’s just dumb times 1,000 since people are going to pull closer to read the sticker and thus defeat the purpose, no?

      • radmax says:

Ha! No, can’t recall ever having a bumpersticker myself, and yes, some are truly annoying!
PS-ever notice the ‘back off’ folks are always the ‘careful drivers’ who appear confused and have that deer in the headlights look on their face as you ‘blow’ by them at the speed limit? They go 20mph below the speed limit and wonder why you are soooo close to them. Pokey butts.

      • Rynski says:

        pokey butts!
…at least we’re done with that 80s fad of having ‘baby on board’ signs or garfield the cat suction-cupped to the rear windows.
that’s not a driving hazard at all!

      • radmax says:

Sorry to report, I still see ’em from time to time…groan.

      • Rynski says:

even the garfield ones? watched oldish movie the other day that had one in a traffic jam scene. then michael douglas stole a bag of machine guns and started killing people.

      • radmax says:

If you’re talkin’ about the one I’m thinking of, that was a good flick! Can’t remember the name…isn’t it the one where he snaps and goes on a robbing/killing spree after being laid off or got tired of being picked on by everybody?…or something?

      • Rynski says:

yes. it was pretty dang good. name? ummmm….FALLING DOWN, that’s it. he looks so funny with his pocket protector.

      • leftfield says:

The new version of “Baby on Board” is those little window decals of mom, dad, each kid and the pets.  They’re very popular with the suburban mini-van set right now.  They go well with AYSO and “My little brat is smarter than your little brat” bumper stickers.

I am waiting for the “Things White People Like” website to write about them.

      • Rynski says:

i thought those decals were for carjackers – so they knew exactly how many people they had to contend with to get the minivan?
i also heard rumors that those decals are sported by people who are in cults – really, someone told me that! hahhahahah.

  3. leftfield says:

No bumper stickers on my car.  I do have a license plate frame supporting a children’s services organization, but I haven’t managed to offend anyone with that.

Perhaps I am just old and out of it, but I am surprised at the level of obscenity I see on people’s bumpers.  Just yesterday, I saw the filthiest thing ever on a bumper sticker – “Bush/Cheney”.  I hope he doesn’t drive his mother around in that car.

  4. azmouse says:

I don’t have any bumper stickers either but I do see a good one once in a great while. My favorite:

  5. azmouse says:

Political bumper stickers are a huge waste of time. They become obsolete so fast and then just make your car look older.

  6. koreyk says:

Even though theywould help hold my car together, I never even considered having a bumper sticker…that is until I discovered the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and became a Pastafarian.

  7. Ferraribubba says:

When I lived in Calif, and was a young cop on the prowl, I advertised myself with my personalized license plate which read, CODE 7Y.
Hint: Code 7 is police code for going off duty to eat.
I had off-duty female officers (i think) honk, smile, wave, and try to force me over to the curb. <g>
    Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba
