Illegal immigrant reportedly stabs teen to death for speaking English

Tucson is not the only place having tons of fun with illegal immigrant issues.

An illegal immigrant in Immokalee, Fla., allegedly stabbed a teen to death because the teen was guilty of a most heinous offense, according to a report by Brent Batten in the Naples News.

The teen, 17-year-old Charlie Guzman, was brazen enough to speak English, right here in America.

Death may have seemed the only logical consequence.

Guzman and some of his friends went to hang out in an apartment building’s laundry room around 3 a.m. on Dec. 21, the report says, when they encountered illegal immigrant Mauricio Escalante, 33, and two others who were already there.

The two groups started talking, then arguing, because Guzman and his pals were speaking English instead of Spanish.

Escalante reportedly ran to a nearby apartment and came back with a knife. Goodbye Guzman.

“So much for the notion that illegal immigrants are universally a hard-working, law abiding set committed to doing the jobs Americans won’t do, all while trying to assimilate,” Batten said.

He does admit that many fit that mold, but there are bound to be some rotten apples.

Guzman’s murder came on the heels of a two-part Naples News story explaining the Collier County sheriff’s program that targets illegal immigrants that break the law and deports them, Batten explained. More than 2,000 illegal immigrants have been deported or are awaiting deportation through the program in the past two years.

“Deputies, through extra training, are empowered to enforce federal laws and begin deportation proceedings as they see fit,” he wrote. “In places without the program, local authorities have to rely on federal agents to undertake the deportation process against known illegal immigrants residing in their jails, a demand the feds are not always prepared to meet.”

Relying on federal agents sounds kind of familiar, no? As mentioned by Mark Evans in his report on Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s budget plan:

“The most interesting of her intended solutions include transferring all state prisoners who are illegal immigrants and eligible for parole to the federal government for deportation back to their home countries.”

Under the Collier County sheriff’s plan, stabbing someone to death is definitely grounds enough for deportation, but one of Escalante’s earlier arrests, of being drunk in public, was not enough.

He got to hang around. And allegedly kill.

wb-logolilWhat do you think?

What would happen if the situation were reversed, if an English speaker killed a teen for daring to speak Spanish?

What agency should be responsible for deportation?

Are you sick of all this stuff already?

Where are you going to move when you become an expatriate?

Mornin’ Rynski!. I sure would be interested to hear what these two groups were chatting about. I bet it wasn’t laundry. Why illegals are not immediately deported upon contact with law enforcement is beyond me.
Brewer is taking a good, albeit forced, step in the right direction trying to unload these crooks to the federal government. I believe Mark stated this would only apply to violent criminals…hell, ship ’em all back to their country of origin and clear all of ’em off the public dole. IMHO!

    • Rynski says:

      hiya radmax,
i think the argument started over fabric softener, but i could not be sure.
the program in collier county, florida only applies to violent offenders, as well, at which time a lot of damage has most likely already been done. when he was arrested for public drunkenness, escalante was NOT deported, but put back on florida streets.
the prob. with leaving the deportation up the feds is that the feds “are not always prepared to meet” the deportation demands – so both programs have flaws of some sort.
      sigh.

      • leftfield says:

The whole fabric softener thing always brings out the worst in people.  One the one side you’ve got your “Springtime Fresh” fanatics; on the other side, the “Clean Linen” devotees.  Politics, religion and fabric softeners – three things never discussed in polite company.

  2. Estoban says:

Why on earth would anyone want to legalize criminals that have used stolen and fraudulent IDs to get American jobs, some 8 million of them. Do you really understand the economic damage this has done to American workers? With 15 million Americans looking for any kind of job to feed and shelter their families this would be cruelty beyond measure. Our people are losing homes, cars, going into deep depression. Unemployment for teenagers is 27%, for blacks 16%, for Latinos 13%. Elected leaders pushing this amnesty are barbaric in their disregard for American workers and our rule of law. Illegal aliens must be deported and greedy criminal employers should be jailed and their property confiscated. Right now the government is bringing in 125,000 foreign workers each month that will be competing for the scant number of available jobs. This is insanity to show such callous disregard to American workers.

    • Rynski says:

      hi estoban,
i agree with you that offering citizenship to those who illegal gained access to the country is not the best answer – but, as of 8:13 a.m., aout 16 percent of the poll voters think so.
      i don’t know why, either.
if i wanted to run away to france, which i often do, you KNOW its gov’t wouldn’t let me just hang around, get a job and then say “hey, why don’t you be a citizen now since you’ve shown such initiative by bypassing all the rules of citizenship.”
one more point – i recall a survey that claimed illegal immigrants were NOT taking a goodly amt of american jobs. what the survey perhaps failed to point out was that those who were in america illegally may not have been gung-ho to participate in said survey. so, what do you know, they would not be reflected in the survey’s numbers.

      • radmax says:

Sounds like another of those unscientific-scientific polls Rynski… 😉
Anyone who believes that illegals are not taking jobs from Americans isn’t involved in the construction trade in Arizona. I see it firsthand everyday.

      • Rynski says:

        yes, we love those polls!

  3. leftfield says:

What’s the bet on how many responses this post gets today?  My guess is somewhere in the forties.  That is, if the story stays local.  If it gets national notice, the white supremacists will push it up to the hundreds.

I’m gonna go ahead and help the cause.  Take any group of people in the millions and you’re going to find some violence worthy of reporting.  Of course, “If it bleeds, it leads”.  Heavens, if you put millions of  Northern Europeans together, before you know it, they’ll be invading some third world country and claiming they “discovered” it.  The quoted story above is the type of yellow journalism Hearst would have been proud of.

OK, buried way down here is my thesis statement:  so long as capital is free to cross borders, so long will I support the right of people to cross national borders at will.  The national border is simply an illusion; the real line is drawn between capital and labor, between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat.

    • radmax says:

…between criminal and honestly trying to better one’s situation, the way I see it. I can’t fault someone for trying to improve their situation, but at the same time I also believe that if caught, you gotta pay the fiddler.

    • Rynski says:

hi leftfield, thanks for your input and thesis.

i’m intrigued by the latter: “so long as capital is free to cross borders, so long will I support the right of people to cross national borders at will.”
so in your theory i can freely move to france with none of that annoying paperwork stuff? can you clear it with pres. sarkozy, just to be sure before i start packing?

      • leftfield says:

Yes, Ryn.  Just tell them at the border that Leftfield said it was OK.

      • Rynski says:

yaay! i’ll send a postcard to the chickens. do they speak french perchance?

      • leftfield says:

Yes, they speak French every bit as well as I do.

      • Rynski says:

        tres bien!
mes chiens parlent le francais, aussi, mais mes rats parlent l’allemand seulement.

      • oldwest2 says:

Ryn: you cease to amaze me girl, you speak French also?
Totally make me dizzy, say that phrase in espanol. No cheating now and looking it up.

      • Rynski says:

hahah! thanks, oldwest2 – but i am sad to say that the only spanish i know is:
el mosquito es chiquito (which i prob. spelled wrong).
there was a fateful day back in middle school where we could choose to study french or spanish for the rest of our lives. i chose the former. besides eavesdropping on a few canadians back in nyc and talking to a cabbie from haiti, i really haven’t gotten to use it much in the us of a.

I must feign some outrage at the scapegoat du jour so that I can fit in as a typical Arizonan who appreciates responsible reportage.
    Bomb em !!

  5. Executioner says:

Escalante should be hung from a tree until dead.

  6. tiponeill says:

Tip, is ‘responsible reporting’ writing only what you deem pertinent?
Ok Ok – an article bashing “illegals” is obviously brave and honorable and certainly nothing one would see in the MSM.
No pandering to hatemongers here at the reputable TC.com 🙂

  7. Chuck Smokemall says:

Kill them all and then deport them!

  8. dealtime says:

These illegals that break the law in US should be tried here and executed if it’s a violent crime. Why deport them and they not be tried in their own country?

  9. RDW says:

Instead posting…….. start VOTING!!!!You want change, VOTE in next years Congregational elections so we can start deporting these parasites with 5th grade educations whom refuse to assimilate. Just remember, they are here for financial gain only!!!!!!!!

  10. azmouse says:

Any time a child is murdered it is the worst of the worst things in the world.

Ryn, did they mention how old the killer is?

The reasons behind murders these days are mind boggling…speaking English, or I wanted to know what it felt like to kill, etc. We need to crack down on violent offenders.
I also agree we have enough of our own criminals in this country. We don’t need criminals from other countries here too.

    • Rynski says:

      hi azmouse –
this story made me sick, too, as does every story with an inane reason behind a death.
      escalante is 33.
also agree america – which always reigns as the country with the most serial killers – has enough of its own violent offenders.

      • azmouse says:

        Hi!
Sorry…last minute Christmas things to attend to all day. This is a good story, and one I hadn’t heard about.

  11. melena29 says:

I voted other which indicated to comment, so here I go:
What do you say we enforce existing immigration law, ALL OF THEM, and let the criminals deport on their own. It will work, and it is oh so long overdue.

  12. steve says:

What is the argument here? every single alien “BROKE THE LAW!” Our Government, past & present, Republican & Democrat, have allowed the invasion of 20 to 30 million criminals and uneducated peons which is the largest invasion of any Nation, at any time, by any means & in direct violation of Article IV, Section IV of our Constitution.

This refusal to abide by our Constitution or enforce our Immigration Laws should be classified as Treason of the most foul kind, & as grounds for impeachment & trials for Treason!

Not only have they allowed the invasion, they force American tax payers to pay Billions on Billions of dollars to provide Welfare, Prison cells, Educate the invaders numerous children, and free medical care, at the same time the invading horde break numerous laws and massive document fraud, & are destroying our schools, hospitals, communities, culture and standard of living while Robbing, Raping, Killing & Assaulting American Citizens WAKE UP PEOPLE!

    • melena29 says:

      Steve,
You could not be more on the money. I along with hundreds of millions of Americans agree 100%. But here’s the rub: how in God’s name do we proceed with impeachment and trials for treason when the very persons we’ve installed to oversee such actions are the crux of the problem itself? They are in it neck deep, they are complicit themselves.
Americans don’t resort to lawbreaking and violence to resolve our problems, and that may be unfortunate, because for the life of me I can’t imagine any other way to resolve this crisis. If the murder of a citizen for speaking his own language doesn’t rattle our lousy government into action, then by God what will?
My husband is of the firm belief that the passage of the Health Care Reform is the very thing that we need to spur a long overdue revolution. I pray to God he’s right, because it looks as though we are going to have this shoved down our throats no matter what we say or do.
      Take care and stay strong.

      • leftfield says:

Here they come; this blog has now reached the nativists and the supremacists who will proceed to demonize the “other”.  Just as the chinese who built the railroads in America were demonized and isolated; just as the jews in Europe were demonized in the thirties; now we turn our attention to another vulnerable group among us and proclaim the discovery that they are the cause of our problems.

    • 4th Gen says:

Ahem, you forget Steve – unless you’re a Native American, your great great great grandparent was one of the FIRST ILLEGALS to touch this land.  But sorry for interrupting, your righteousness was saying??

  13. leftfield says:

    “tres bien!
mes chiens parlent le francais, aussi, mais mes rats parlent l’allemand seulement.”

Ryn – I didn’t say I could speak French.  I said my chickens speak French every bit as well as I do.

    • Rynski says:

oh, poo! you got me! i was HOPING the chickens could cackle away in la belle langue!
OK – i’ll provide translation, which says that my dogs also speak french but my rats only speak german.

  14. YAXMIN SANCHEZ says:

i believe that illegal immigrants who commit crimes should be deported…. the others should be allowed to stay.. i think this guy should be punisheed and then deported…

  15. oldwest2 says:

Ryn: thanks for the response, Spanish has a definite flare to it, but French is OOOhh La La, you picked the right one for sure.
The article was informative and right on the moola as usual. Keep up the great reporting.

  16. People says:

I’m from outside of Arizona and I check this site daily.  See, I found out about this site when I was trying to find funny articles on the web. And I found the article “When funny things fall from the Sky” in the Logical Lizard. And I loved it. Then I found that on retrofections there is a lot of funny articles. So I fell in love with the site!
P.S: I don’t normaly comment, this is pretty daring.

thanks, too, for being bold and commenting!

  17. John Bowman says:

John McCain disagrees with the 86% of Tuscon Citizens who want illegal aliens deported, so in the primary deport him from the Senate in favor of JD Hayworth!!!
