Artist’s Sketchbook: RYNchimes

Part of the beauty of creating art is not knowing what the heck you’ll come up with. Such was the case when I got a request for windchimes.

After trial and error with the welder, some wire, metal hunks and wood, I threw all the error in a heap and came up with the following creation:

RYNchimes/Ryn Gargulinski

These RYNchimes may not sound like a symphony, but they are guaranteed not to rust, crust or bleed (although they could probably kill a small child if they fell on his head).

The biggest lesson I learned during this experiment was how incredibly awesome the Dremel rotary tool is. While I’ve used this lethal, spinning machine for sanding and grinding edges, this is the first time I’ve used it to cut through metal.

Sparks are quite pretty as long as they are not flying at your eyes.

I don’t know yet if the person likes them. If not, I have plenty of saw blades and old fence posts to cut through for the next set.

Have you ever had the joy of using a Dremel rotary tool?

For what? The instructions say not to use it for dentistry.

Did you get sparks in your eyes and go blind?

I’ve never used one…but I have a friend who’s a machinist, and I got this idea to make my own windchimes. I had my machinist friend bring home scrap metal and made a really cool windchime with fishing line and some beads.
Allot of fun. I thought mine looked kinda gothic, but yours are way more goth.

Whoa- those are AWESOME Rynski! Whoever gets these babys is one lucky son of a gun. 🙂 ( they look perfect for keeping ‘solicitors’ away)

    I like it!

As to the Dremel, it is one of the few tools I do not yet own (Is it possible for a man to own too many tools? I think not.) Anybody out there who is already thinking about what to get Lefty for Xmas this year should make a note: Dremel!

Darn-it! I was gonna get ya a VERY rare recording of Che and the Insurgents’ rendition of Guantanamera. Dremels are really handy for many things. There are about a million different bits for ’em. I couldn’t find anything to cut some cool shale tile for my fireplace-Dremel did the trick.

You should know, RADC, that I set a strict limit of $500 on gifts for me. Anything more than that would be unseemly. Knowing this, you’ll probably need to change your plans for my gift this year.

      Hey…good commies don’t celebrate Christmas!….Do they?

      • Romeo says:

Lets split the cost on buying mista commie/pinko a dremel with the allah akbar head cutting device, maybe leftnut will chop his own head off. Always wanting someone else to foot the bill for them, lovely.

      • leftfield says:

Romeo, I think it very communist of you to offer to do your part.

Just like The Man said, “From each according to ability, to each according to need”.

Winter Solstice – appropriately pagan, or heathen, as you prefer. Actually, I’m sure you are aware that the christians appropriated Dec. 25th as a day of celebration from several other bronze age dieties now known only to historians. As christianity began to infect the globe, the other religions with a resurrected prophet born in December were lost.

You’re deflecting Lefty…go ahead, admit it. You love the holidays as much as the next guy. I bet you have a Santa Claus suit stashed in your closet…right next to your commemorative chunk of the Iron Curtain.

Wasn’t this about some Rynski windchimes? Amazing how we digress, isn’t it? 🙂 Geez, I had to check the title again.

YOUR mind never ceases to amaze! Great original work. They are definitely “one of a kind.”

Poor Karl, his subugates are droppin’ like flies. Would that one of these workers paradises ever fullfilled his vision. PS-North Korea looks like a prime example. I got a plausible scenario ready to go….
