'Highway to Hell' topping funeral charts

Funerals are definitely getting less stuffy, as evidenced in the trend in funeral music.

Some folks are steering clear of the traditional organ fugues and soppy hymns and picking more contemporary classics, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Like AC/DC’s Highway to Hell.

Frank Sinatra’s My Way continues to be the most popular song selected for funerals, the report said, but an array of others are coming closer.

Top five popular songs:

1. My Way – Frank Sinatra/Shirley Bassey.

2. Wind Beneath My Wings – Bette Midler/Celine Dion.

3. Time To Say Goodbye – Sarah Brightman/Andrea Bocelli.

4. Angels – Robbie Williams.

5. Over The Rainbow – Eva Cassidy.

Other top picks (no rankings):

– Highway To Hell – AC/DC.

– Hallelujah covered by talent show winner Alexandra Burke.

– Bat Out Of Hell – Meatloaf.

– Spirit In The Sky – Doctor and the Medics.

– Another One Bites the Dust – Queen.

Very cool.

Just because of the ominous beat and the title, I’d go with something befitting like Pink Floyd’s Waiting for the Worms.

TucsonCitizen.com Editor Mark Evans would go for Ralph Stanley’s O Death or the Bugs Bunny theme song.

Tucson Citizen’s Jennifer Boice would select Monty Python’s Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.

“That’s a good one,” she said, “but I also like the Lumberjack Song.”

What song would you want played at your funeral?

Well, the music would go on for hours, if not days. The program would start with \Innocent When You Dream\ by Tom Waits, and end up with King Crimson’s \21st Century Schizoid Man\ with the volume cranked up just shy of making everybodys head explode.

Hmm…my quotation marks were rendered as backslashes.

And, the timestamp is an hour off.

The Loney Bull by Herb Alpert, Closer to Home by Grand Funk, In My Time of Dyin’ by Zep, Don’t Fear the Reaper-BOC, I Love the Dead-Alice Cooper, Circle Game- Joni Mitchell, and last but not least, Everybody I Love You-CSNY. Rynski! These type ins are making me age!

Love, love the Zeppelin pick – wish I thought of that one. Much more soothing than my Waiting for the Worms idea. All your songs are good ones…no aging!

And Korey K – yes, the time stamp is off and some of the punctuation gets translated into weird glitches — but you should have seen the mess there was earlier today!! haha.

The glitches will all be ironed out and the commenting option will also become less annoying as time goes on. It will not make you put your life story in every time in the future.

Maybe the Beta after Tucson Citizen.com should be changed to UltraBeta.

Still, I think releasing the new site in all its flawed glory and tweaking as you go is the right approach. You were losing too much momentum staying in the old format. Besides, if that approach is good enough for Microsoft, it’s good enough for anyone.

Will there be a bug report/ suggestion link?

For my funeral, I have to go with T.V. theme songs.
Start with ‘I Love Lucy’, throw in ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ theme song and possibly the tune from ‘Sanford And Son’ just because I like it. Maybe end with the whistling from ‘The Andy Griffith Show’.
